Still no wage concessions from teacher's union
The BOE met tonight.
Disappointingly, there was no news to report regarding concessions from the teacher's union. An additional BOE meeting was added for this Thursday at 7.30pm (location TBA), at which point it is hoped that there will be an answer with time to disseminate to the community.
All other unions, town side and including the paraprofessional, custodial, and secretarial unions on the BOE side have tentatively agreed to concessions. However, on the BOE side these concessions would only result in $150K in savings ($1.178M was cut from the BOE budget), as the vast majority of the budget is in teacher personnel.
What is exceedingly clear is that, wage concessions or not, another failed referendum would have severe and long lasting effects on staffing and programs. In particular, even with wage concessions the personnel likely to be cut include many of the recently hired staff and non-essential programs such as sports, music, theater, and art.
Town meeting will take place at Adams on Tuesday night at 7.30pm. All are encouraged to attend.
