Democratic Primary on Tuesday September 15th

We want to encourage registered Democrats to vote in the Democratic primary for First Selectman this Tuesday, Sept. 15th. All five polling sites will be open from 6AM-8PM. Please mark your calendars and exercise your right to vote.

We had a great turnout for the first PACT meeting of the 2009-2010 school year with over 70 people present to hear the two Democratic candidates for First Selectman discuss some of the most pressing issues facing Guilford. For those of you who did not attend the meeting, here is some information to consider before voting.

As described in the Shoreline Times article from Sept. 11, 2009, Ted Zuse has clearly stated that he supports renovating Guilford High School (which he estimates will cost $15-30 million), and not building a new high school, contrary to the Task Force's conclusions, the BOE majority decision (8-1 with only Ted Zuse dissenting) and, the PACT membership survey conducted last year.

Gary MacElhiney has stated that he will work with the Board of Education, listen to their recommendations, and gather more information before reaching a final decision. He stressed that he has a good working relationship with the chairman of the BOE, Bill Bloss (who has endorsed him) and our superintendent Dr. Forcella. He has the endorsement of the Democratic Town Committee.

Guilford PACT's mission is "to advocate for education by increasing community and political involvement in Guilford". We therefore encourage all registered Democrats to vote for the candidate that they believe will best support the short and long term interests of our community, teachers, students, and educational infrastructure.

We plan to host a discussion between the winner of the Democratic primary and Joe Mazza (the republican candidate for First Selectman) in the next month. There will be another email with details to follow.
