March 24th Meeting Summary

Greetings fellow PACT members!

On Wednesday night, about 25 PACT members and supporters gathered to hear an update on school facilities from John Ireland, Chairman of the BOE’s Facilities Subcommittee, and to discuss PACT’s get out the vote effort for the April 20th budget referendum. Thank you to John Ireland and Alan Meyers from the BOE, and to all who attended and volunteered to help get out the YES vote!

Last night was the start of a full blown effort by all PACT members to rally all supporters of education, so that they (and their spouses!) get to the polls to support the budget and the two bonding questions relating to school facilities, which are: (1) a new roof at Guilford Lakes; and (2) a health and safety assessment of air quality issues at Baldwin.

As we learned last night, a failed budget will likely cause further cuts to programs and/or staffing, which could affect class sizes, and negatively impact the future of school facilities projects. By helping PACT identify and motivate the "yes" voters, we can keep moving forward with supporting the BOE plan for the schools.

As a supporter and/or member of PACT, we are asking for your help these next few weeks. Here are some ways you can help:

(1) Volunteer a block of time to phone bank, location tbd, on Sunday, April 18th from 3-8 p.m. and Monday, April 19th from 5-8 p.m. We will have a script for you to follow, so no special knowledge is required. Please contact Karen Goldberg at karengoldberg@ymail.com to sign up!

(2) Mark your calendar for April 19th to contact 5 friends to remind them (and their spouses) to vote.

(3) Attend the Town Meeting on the budget on April 6th at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center to voice your support for the budget.

(4) Attend the Women's Night Out to support the budget on April 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Cafe Grounded.

(5) Donate funds to PACT, which will go toward mailing a VOTE YES postcard to our list of education supporters. You can donate via the PayPal link on our website: http://guilfordpact.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=1

(6) Spread the word to your friends and neighbors to vote yes for the budget! Please make sure all eligible voters in your household get to the polls on the 20th or vote by absentee ballot.

(7) If you will be away for April break (or immediately after), vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots will be available at Town Hall on or about April 7th. Call the Town Clerk at 453-8001 for more information.

Your support is critical no matter how big or small your efforts, and we thank you for your continued support!
